The Battle is Real. We have a fight on our hands right now.
Can we say this?: “We are developing spiritual and cultural fighters through classical Christian education.”
I am substituting the word “fighters” for “leaders” in our school mission statement.. We are realizing more and more that we need to raise our children to be fighters. Men and women who will faithfully fight for their families and freedom. LIONS FIGHT!
How do we train and prepare our children for this season? Take a few minutes to read this short article by David Goodwin, President of the Association of Classical Christian Schools.
Link here: The Battle is Real (Classical Christian Times)
Goodwin argues that classical Christian schools are a great option for training and teaching students. However, it is not enough! “The family is key. If your family teaches a solid Christian AND conservative lifestyle — if you connect the two and give reasons why — your kids will have a fighting chance.”
The family is key! Do you know and believe that you train your children’s affections–(i.e. what TV shows, music, books, and video games they spend time with, how they spend time, their attitudes towards work and service, etc.)
Are you teaching the Bible in your home?
Do you worship together in your home? Read Scripture, sing hymns and spiritual songs, memorize Scripture and catechisms?
Are you not only attending a church but also actively engaged in a local church that preaches the Gospel?
It is the home, church, and school working together that is necessary to prepare a child for life. But what life is that? It is a life that joyfully serves both God and man and is not carried about by every wind of doctrine (Ephesians 4:14 ESV).
Getting back to the title of this article: The Battle is Real. This (parenting) is a challenging task. To raise a family that is separate from the world is HARD! It will be a fight, but it will be a fight worth fighting.
