While cities go silent, nature buzzes on. As we practice social distancing, nature didn’t get the memo. Tulips are popping up. Spring has arrived. Hummingbirds made it back to Bay County. Frogs are calling, birds are singing and tails are still wagging.
I’ve always been a lover of God’s creation. Ever since I was a little girl, my heart has been captivated by nature. Being in nature reminds me God has a much bigger plan. It keeps me feeling small and in times like these, nature brings calm.
I love in Genesis how creation is laid out. Clearly, God loves and treasures His creation. He intentionally created the heavens and the earth. The sun, moon, stars, planets, land, seas and animals. When He finished with human development, God looked at everything He had made and found it very good! (Genesis 1:31) All of nature points towards our Creator.
During the world wide flood, I love how God saved two of every animal while also saving Noah’s human family. By doing this, He clearly demonstrated His love and priority for His creation. God has directed us to subdue the earth. Have dominion over it, enjoy it and be good stewards of His creation.
It is amazing hearing and reading people’s personal stories around the world enjoying nature during this pandemic. The forced shut down of busy schedules has cleared time to just be. Globally, people are outdoors more, sitting out in their backyards, exercising and exploring nature. Slow nature walks with my own children have been healing to my soul. Just being in nature breathing in the fresh air, listening to the sounds and feeling the rustling of the wind is a true gift and brings peace.
The largest pink Supermoon of 2020 rose over our pandemic battered world and millions of people came together and eyes were lifted up into the night skies. Ultimately, eyes lifted up to our Creator. God’s natural wonders are providing a much needed connection at a time when many people around the world are feeling isolated.
As a scientist, I love the incoming reports that beaches are cleaner. Streets are free of debris. Clearer skies are reported in San Francisco and Atlanta. Cleaner waters in Venice, Italy and even NASA is reporting visible changes from space over parts of Earth.
As we are getting out in nature while we heal as a people, I love how nature is showing signs of healing as well. Although most of our daily venues such as schools, workplaces, restaurants, gyms, movie theaters, sports venues are closed…remember
Nature’s always open.
Take time to enjoy His gift of creation.
Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice; let the sea roar, and all that fills it; let the field exult, and everything in it!
Then shall all the trees of the forest sing for joy
Psalm 96:11-12
